This is our first Spring Break as parents, since Mason is in school and our schedules need to align with his. We left 10 inches of snow in Denver and went to Southern California and stayed with uncle John and auntie Diana. They live very close to Disneyland, where we went to for two days. John, Diana and our friends Gerry, Alison and Ben joined us at California Adventure. We hadn't been to that side of the park before and heard the new Carsland was amazing.
The Radiator Springs ride was great after a 40-minute fast pass line right when he park opened, but it got us in within 10 minutes at our assigned time of 1:30. Fast passes were sold out by 10 am, leaving folks a 2 hour wait to ride on it. It was a good ride, but in my opinion not worth a 2-hour wait.
Mason is now taller than 48 inches and Audrey taller than 42 inches, so they could go on almost any ride. Mason went on his first big roller coaster called California Screaming. He was excited to go on his first "loopie loop" and loved it!
Next day, the four of is us went back to Disneyland's Magic Kingdom side. We got there early and got in many of the popular rides (Buzz, Star Tours, Autopia and Space Mountain) before the crowds arrived. It got very busy and almost unbearable. Spring break may not be the best time to go after all. But we enjoyed it and Mason went on Space Mountain twice!
Wednesday was our "rest" day and we drove down to San Diego to visit our friends Vicki, Chris and their 18-month old Jackson who we stayed with, and Mat, April and their 5-year-old Izzy (6 weeks younger than Mason) who hosted us for dinner. They live only a mile from each other - crazy coincidence.
We went to Legoland with Alison, Gerry and Ben. The rides are definitely more suitable for smaller kids, but Audrey and Mason love them. Mason loves LEGO, so he was in heaven. The park was busy, but the lines were manageable and it felt like a more relaxed experience. The Miniland part of the park with LEGO replicas of New York, DC, Vegas and other cities was awesome for both kids and adults.
We also got to visit other family and friends in the LA area (lots of driving), the beach, and had lots of good food. The week went by quickly and we got back Saturday night to have a full recovery day on Sunday.
