All sick - stomach flu

On my Mom's birthday, Mason had a complete meltdown at the restaurant. He was very hungry and cranky after waiting for a table for 45 minutes. We just had to get everything packed to go and went back home. He calmed down once he had some food in the car, and went to sleep shortly after we got back home. We didn't know then that he was actually sick, and that night he threw up his dinner, which made it a long night for us of cleaning and caring for him.

Two days later, my Dad started feeling sick. It takes a lot for him to complain, so I knew he was not feeling well at all. He stayed in bed all day, didn't eat much, couldn't keep food down and had a fever. After dinner that night, Bill started feeling sick. By about 10:30 pm, after he had already thrown up a couple of times, he was threw up again, but this time he passed out as he was doing it! I was completely terrified shaking him and trying to keep his airway clear, and he came to after a few seconds which lasted an eternity to me. He was severely dehydrated, with stomach cramps and we needed to get him to a hospital. We called 911 to get an ambulance to take him to the hospital, about 10 EMTs and firefighters showed up in our bedroom within minutes. My Mom stayed to care for my Dad and keep an eye on Mason (who slept through it all), while I followed to the hospital. After 3 bags of liquids, morphine and anti nausea medication, they discharge us around 2:30 am.

By the time we got home, my Mom started feeling sick. 3 out of the 4 adults were sick. I was the last one standing. As folks went to sleep, I cleaned up and couldn't sleep from all the adrenaline of the night's events. I finally went to sleep around 3:30 am, but Mason promptly started crying at 5:30 am (of course). I took care of him during the morning, half from the laying down position and hoping he would just sit with me in front of the TV watching Noggin. We couldn't even get any help, fearing we would get someone else sick. But by 9:30 am, my Dad woke up saying he was feeling better, still weak, but fever and other symptoms were gone. He took Mason for a few hours as the rest of us rested. With 4 men down and a 18-month old running around, it was a sad day in the Burns household.

We all felt much better the next day, but took us another 2 days to fully recover. We had planned to visit Bill's sisters Heidi and Holly and their families in Portland this weekend, but ended up cancelling the trip in fears of getting others sick. This is a nasty stomach flu going around - wash your hands and stay healthy.
