Mason doesn't cry any more at daycare drop off. He seems to enjoy playing with his friends and the activities at daycare. He doesn't eat their lunches as well as we would like him to, but that has been improving as well since we started giving him less in the mornings and less snacks through out the day.
He has learned new behaviors, both good and bad. Here are a few examples of the bad behaviors. His daycare provides daily report cards noting how much and what he ate, his diaper changes, that day's activities and how he "rated" on helping to clean up, being nice to friends, sharing with friends, etc. On the "nice to friends" category, his report cards always came back with "often" marked, until this past Monday. This Monday, the "nice to friends" category was marked in the "learning" column (2 down from "often" and "occasionally"). The teachers had told my dad that Mason was hitting his friends that day. Oh boy! He has since gotten a few more "occasionally" marks.
At home he was hit Bill and I when unhappy. After watching SuperNanny, one of the shows had a toddler as young as 2 years old in time-out, and she said they are able to understand. We have put him on time-out a few times, he is sorry at the end, but hasn't curbed the bad behavior.
On Wednesday, we were in the backyard throwing the ball, when Mason picked up Sasha's toy and said "Mine". A new word in his vocabulary, and one we will hear often I am sure.
Yesterday (Thursday), he came home with a bite mark on his arm. The teacher told my dad that it was instigated by another kid, but maybe in retaliation for the hitting from the previous days. We hope he doesn't learn and reciprocates by biting other kids.
At least once a day Mason finds himself unhappy about something - not getting what he wants - and throws himself on the floor crying. Ah, the toddler years and the terrible twos - new challenges lie ahead for Bill and I.
