Labor Day Weekend with the Prices

We hadn't planned to go anywhere for Labor Day weekend, but after meeting Jen, Winston and their kids at the airshow, we talked about finding a last minute get away in the mountains. We ended up finding a fantastic new 5-bedroom/5 bath house in the Sol Vista/Granby Lake area for a nice bargain. So we headed up Saturday morning (the Prices followed in the afternoon) and stayed until Noon on Monday. The drive there would had taken us about 2 hours if we didn't stop in Winter Park to play in the park and get some lunch. The drive home was a different story (read below).

We love having a DVD player to keep the kids occupied during long drives. Both Mason and Audrey have the same favorite position, must be genetic. And Sasha is watching TV too!

The house was gorgeous and had enough room for everyone to spread out. Mason, Ethan and Cayden played the whole time in their rooms and in the basement (where the video game was, of course). The nice thing is that they are at an age they can play by themselves. Another year, and Audrey will be there too. :-) We went to Lake Granby and Grand Lake on Sunday to take the kids fishing, but it was very windy. We decided to explore the town at Grand Lake instead. Winston and Bill went mountain biking in the afternoon, while I took a nap and Jen watched ALL the kids.

Here is Winston with the boys. We didn't take enough pictures of us together!

We all had a great time, and hope to go back again in the Winter. Sol Vista is a smaller ski resort, but very family friendly and a perfect spot for Mason to take some ski lessons this Winter.

We packed up on Monday around 11 AM to hit the road. We knew it was not the best time to leave, but we were hopeful since there was not much traffic coming up on Saturday. After sitting in traffic for 30 minutes and not even close to Winter Park yet, I decided to turn around and go the Trail Ridge way. We knew that going through Trail Ridge Road and Estes Park was going to be a little longer, but it is a gorgeous drive and we would be moving the whole time. We saw elks by the road and a gorgeous view that can't be captured by pictures (although Bill tried on his iPhone camera), it reminds me why we live in Colorado!

As we came down into the plains, I noticed the hazy skies. As we drove away from the mountains, we could see the smoke from the huge wild fire outside of Boulder (still raging).
