First week at Broomfield Academy

This week was Audrey and Mason's first week at the new school, and we all love it already!!  Here is what we love so far:

-Kids swim 3-4 times a week as part of their summer program at the indoor salt pool.  In addition, we have added some after school private lessons to help them learn to swim (continue from the lessons they took almost 2 years ago).  Mason is already able to swim across the pool unassisted.

-We have also added soccer after school on Thursdays.  Both had been taking Happy Feet at Gateway before, and were happy to continue.  Mason may be getting a little older for that program, but for now he is happy to participate.

-Classes are very small (8-10) and everywhere I look I see a teacher.  From what Mason tells us, their activities range from playing games, puppet shows, plays, reading in the library, art and he is looking forward to the field trips.

-The dropping off the kids in 1 school versus two in opposite directions is very easy and saves us at least 30 minutes during drop off and pick up.  Drop off is also very relaxed (between 8:15 and 8:30 am), not the mad dash to drop Mason off at the hug-and-go lane in between a 5- minute window.

- Preparing lunch everyday is no something I was looking forward to, but thanks to lunchables and other easy lunch ideas, it has not been difficult.  The kids don't eat a big variety, but don't seem to mind the same old selections.  Also, because the school is small and teacher ratio is high, they can bring in items to heat up/microwave, vs only cold items.  During the school year, they do have lunch programs where you can order Subway, Chick-fil-A, pizza or Noodles and company.

-They are both in Extended Day (between when school ends at 3:15 and 6 pm) for the first month since my parents just left for a month in Japan/China.  There are many after school programs, including piano, violin, and dance classes.  We may add those as time goes by and depending on their interest.  It is great to have those options that do not require us to drive the kids around to different locations.

-Both kids are happy and come home exhausted!  Audrey has fallen sleep twice in the car on the way home before dinner (she is also slowly transitioning out of taking day naps) an Mason once.

We are happy with the decision, we feel they are both at a safe and nurturing environment.
